Mode Wheel up and running
Another plant on the Manchester Ship Canal is completed
The new SHHP Mode Wheel is embedded into the existing Mode Wheel Locks structure from the 19th century. Mode Wheel has been successfully completed in February 2022. It uses the potential of Manchester Ship Canal – a 36-mile-long (58 km) inland waterway in the North West of England linking Manchester to the Irish Sea. Same as Irlam, it is a part of our projects in the Greater Manchester Area which connect renewable sources of energy near the urban area.
According to the designed parameters, this SHPP reaches a capacity of 421 kW and generates more than 2 000 MWh of electric energy annually from a discharge of 15 m3/s.
We care about the habitat of the animals so an installation of the new eel pass, which was part of the site, provides a unique perspective on the Manchester Ship Canal’s wildlife.
HYDROPOL was in charge of design, EPC contract and all technology equipment and is responsible for maintenance and operation of this SHPP.
